You have your website up and running and you have now deciding to join an affiliate scheme. But, there are so many of them, which one should you, choose? And, once you have picked one how can you guarantee success? Here are some top tips to get you on the path.
First of all, look at what your website has to offer, and think about what products would be best suited towards your overall themes. When choosing a scheme, it would work in your favor to work with a company that is already well established and respected (for example, Google and Amazon), especially if you are running only a small website. You and your customers know that you can trust them.
Once you have joined any affiliate schemes, make sure that you promote your website. Without promotion, don’t expect any traffic, and without traffic, don’t expect any clicking. Make sure you add your site to all of the major search engines, add meta-tags to your web pages, and make a presence for yourself on every type of social networking site, from Facebook and Twitter to specialist and relevant forums.
If you intend to promote the products on your website (rather than simply placing adverts), make sure that you pick products that you truly believe in. You can only sound like you believe in something if you really are passionate about it, and trust the product yourself. Your customers aren’t stupid, and if you are lying about what you think about a product, it will show.
Keep an eye on what works and what doesn’t. If you notice that you are getting little or no business through a particular affiliate, consider changing your banners or adverts or if they never seem to pick up business, consider dropping them and trying something else. You can always pick them back up again later if you deem fit.
Ensure that all adverts placed on your website are relevant to your content; otherwise no one will be interested in clicking on them. If you find them irrelevant, consider strategically placing specific keywords into your websites text that the adverts will be able to pick up. If you are not sure if the adverts are relevant, consider doing a little market research into your audience. Discover what might have led them to your website, what would they be expecting out of it? What are their shopping trends?
If you want to be taken seriously, not only by the company you wish to affiliate with, but also by search engines, seriously consider buying a domain name. Having a website that reads http://saidul.webs.com or http://saidul.wordpress.com will considered as nothing more than a Personal Homepage, or the site of someone that isn’t interested in putting any real effort into their business. This could mean that search engines and affiliate schemes won’t want to sign you up. Having a domain that reads www.saidul.com looks much more professional.
