As the internet is expanding its span infinitely like the universe, so will be the expansion of its various available tools to communicate with people. Blogs only add to this trend. A number of different types of blogs are created and posted nowadays that are categorized differently.

Personal blogs: it is the most common way of writing a blog. It is predominantly maintaining an online diary. It may well be the case that the personal blogs are not considered popular, but the personal bloggers are very complacent in writing them, as it depicts their outlooks and their passions and preferences. Though it is very rare that a personal blog has gained enough popularity, but when it does, it never looks back. Micro blogging involves the input of a lot of emotional and sentimental detailing in trying to describe a particular moment in one’s life. Twitter is one such site.

Corporate blogs: much as the personal blogs, corporate blogs also have their own followers. These are the type of blogs that are written to promote the marketing, advertising, brandishing, public relations and so on. In a nutshell, they are the business blogs.

Based on the type: these blogs are written on particular subjects or themes. Examples include political blogs, real estate blogs, art blogs, travel blogs, fashion and style blogs, quiz blogs, education blogs, music blogs, legal blogs and many more. The blogs infamous for all but spamming are known as the splogs.

Based on the media attached: although the blogs are mostly text based, many bloggers attach different links to their blog posts. They include the vlog (attached video), MP3blog (attached music), podcast (attached audio), sketch blog (attached sketch), link log (attached link), photo blogs (attached photographs) and the tumble logs (a combination).

Based on the device to create it: the sousveillance is the type of blog where the online diary is written with the live video attachment together with the pictures of a person’s daily life, taken from the wearable devices such as the computer or the mobile phone. These are also called the moblogs.

Some useful terms

Blogosphere: all the blogsites are together called as the blogosphere. The blogrolls, link backs, remarks and the backlinks are the various means through which all the blogs are linked together on the internet. The blogsites seem to be in the same sea of interaction and communication like the newspapers.

Blog search engines: as the common search engines like Google or yahoo that are used to search different keywords on the internet, Bloglines, BlogScope and Technorati are the blog search engines that provide information on the blogs. Among them, Technorati is the most efficient blog search engine to give the latest information about the blog searches as well as the top ranking blog.

Blog communities: the likes of BlogCatalog and the MyBlogLog are the online communities that act as the mediators between the bloggers and also help the non-bloggers to interact with the bloggers.

Ad-blogs: while the bloggers sometimes take to allowing advertising to either financially benefit from them or to popularize their own preferences through the ads, some companies also create fake blogs to attract potential customers to purchase their products.
