Becoming a master at affiliating, does not mean joining every single scheme that you can possible find, attaching their adverts to your website, sitting back and reaping in the rewards. This is because life is never quite that easy. So, if you think affiliation is going to be an easy route to big money, then you really need to do some research.
Of course, signing up with as many affiliates as you see relevant to your website is certainly a strong idea, because if means that you have more opportunities within your website for your customers to click on. Joining several affiliate schemes also protects you, should an affiliate suddenly decide not to affiliate with you, or closes down completely.
However, the most important factor of becoming a master affiliate is to create traffic to your website, because without traffic, there won’t be anyone to click any of your affiliate adverts.
The best ways to go about creating traffic is to get your website onto search engines, and add Meta-Tags to all of your web pages so that search engines can find your site. Make sure that you update your website regularly (everyday would be best, if possible), because people won’t be interested in a website that was last updated several months ago, people like up-to-date information and they want to know that you can be bothered to update, because if you can’t be bothered, then why should they? Plus, if you don’t update regularly, then people won’t be coming back to your site, you need to give them a reason to.
Add your web address to your email signature, and then every time that you email someone you are sending them a little advert for your website. Become a regular face on relevant forums, write comments on everything you can think of, and make sure you both your signature and your profile give a link to your website, and don’t be afraid to openly advertise your website in your comments, as long as it is relevant.
Take advantage of all social network sites, especially Twitter, Facebook and MySpace, and keep them up-to-date. Every single time that you update any aspect of your website, no matter how small, make sure that you advertise the fact on Twitter, along with a link. You will be amazed how successful “tweeting” is on bringing traffic to your website, especially if you load your “tweets” with relevant keywords that people search for.
If your website is a particular niche, consider writing guest blogs for similar niche blogs. Guest blogging often results in an advert to your website as a form of payment.
