Deciding to one of the most important factors that you should be thinking about, because without money you potentially can’t keep you business running, especially at a time when you have no established yourself enough to be earning proper money from your services or products.
Once you have set your business up and running, with a working website, you should consider being part of something called Affiliate marketing. Quite simply, Affiliate marketing is when you register with a leading, well-established company and allow them to advertise on your website. In return for this type of free advertising, the company will pay you a commission that can vary depending on the company, every time that someone clicks on their product link.
If you decide that Affiliate Marketing is the route that you’d like to go use for your initial financing, the next step is to consider what types of company you would like to become affiliated with. Look at the services or products that you intend to sell to your customers. Are there any other websites that sell similar products? You may consider teaming up with one of these, providing they offer a Affiliation Scheme. If you intend to offer an advice service, are there any websites that will, in effect, back up the advice that you will be providing? For example, if you intend to give computer repair advice, affiliating with Amazon could provide your potential customers with links to other computer products, such as books, or software. The best thing about placing this type of advertising on your website is that you can choose what products the customer can view, thus leading them to your favorite products.
Companies to consider affiliate with include Amazon, Google (especially Google Adsense), Ebay and Yahoo. But, don’t be afraid to look around at every large company website that would be relevant, many offer affiliate schemes, even if they are not obviously advertised, so you might have to dig deep.
But, just because you are now affiliated with these companies does not mean that you are going to make lots of money. Unless you can get regular traffic to your website, there isn’t going to be anyone to click on all of your cleverly chosen and located links.
Social networking is rapidly becoming a secret weapon in free and easy advertising. Consider joining as many social networks as you can (Twitter, Facebook, MySpace etc) and keep them up-to-date. If you have a blog announce all up dates on Twitter and see your hit rates sore. Make sure that you have a signature attached to every email that you send. Add meta-tags to your web pages. List your website on all of the major search engines, especially Google, as it is proving to be the most popular.
